How Does Rako Lighting Work
Q. How does Rako compare to other lighting control systems.
A. The Rako system has the same level of control and features as any other brand of lighting control, but with the added benefits of
- Wired or wireless options for all keypads and dimmers
- Based on RF technology so signals are sent through walls and ceilings
- Single room or multiroom room and whole house configuration
- iPhone and iPad control with scene setting ability on each device
- Numerous Fascia options as well as standard and screw less panels
- A dimmer module for every type of lighting type
- Expand to include Curtain/Blind or any 230v triggered device like garden water features
- PC controlled, smart house remote option and endless control options
Q. When you say wireless, how does the system work.
A. Simply by using two parts, the Control Panel (keypad) in replacement of your normal light switch and the in line dimmer, the control panel then sends commands to the various dimmers using RF (remote) signals in order to tell them to dim the lighting circuit to the desired scene level (see pic1)

Q. Is it easy to install
A. Extremely easy, it simply needs programming so that the control panel knows which dimmers to control when pressed, you can choose to either program each dimmer from the keypad itself, or add the RAH Smart Remote which comes with the PC software in order to program your home lighting from any house PC
Q. What else can the system do
A. Rako can be connected to a number of additional parts of your home like curtain control, holiday and timer controls, or other switched devices like garden features, or trigger window openers.
Q. How far can the dimmer be away from the wall panel
A. This is difficult to guess, but we would aim at being around 15m away, of course if further distance is need, we offer the Rako RB100 booster which takes signals and gives it additional distance.
Q. Where do you fit the dimmers
The dimmers can either be fitted in ceiling, in-wall or simply loose in a cabinet. The RDL range is designed to be compact enough to fit in almost any location or simply inline on a table lamp.
On some occasions where the circuit load is larger then say 1000watts then you would need to use the RDL1200 which is a larger dimmer module, and although it is controlled wirelessly some consideration on it’s location is needed.
